Under the general direction of the System Director of HIM & Privacy, the HIM Manager provides strategic direction to the HIM department of MMC, and works collaboratively with the System Director to implement strategic level improvement projects, maintain financial performance, regulatory compliance, and achieve employee retention and satisfaction. The Manager also providers leadership to the Health Information Management Department by planning and organizing all aspects of the department. The HIM Manager monitors and coordinates the day-to-day department functions, such as patient record maintenance, transcription, statistical reviews, delinquent records, releases of information, etc. The HIM Manager also oversees employee’s schedules, PTO time and facilitates coverage when absences occur. The HIM Manager assists in the supervision of the department and, in the absence of the Director, assumes all duties of the Director. The Manager promotes high quality cost effective resource management, optimizes department resources, mentors and reviews staff performance. The Manager also provides expertise, problem identification and data collection for quality improvement initiatives. The manager will also serve as backup for the Privacy Officer as needed. |
Education: · Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Business Administration or related degree required. A combination of advanced education and Health Information Management experience may be considered in lieu of bachelor’s degree. |
Licensure/Certification/Registry: · Registered Health Information Administrator/Registered Health Information Technician preferred. |
Experience: · Minimum of three years supervisory experience required. · Proficient in Microsoft applications. Must have experience in project management. · Experience with the management of electronic of data strongly recommended. |
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: · Five or more years of Health Information Management required. · Have a demonstrated knowledge of regulations, policies and procedures of regulating agencies affiliated with all functions of health information (TJC, HIPAA, IDPH, CMS). · Must possess strong oral and written communication skills, planning skills, problem-solving skills, and change management skills. Extremely strong skills in personal diplomacy; demonstrates personal traits of a high level of motivation, team orientation, professionalism and trustworthiness. Must possess sound decision-making ability, operate well under pressure and be tenacious in resolving difficult problems. · Able to facilitate change through team building, processes improvement and multi-disciplinary approach. Demonstrate ability to work with a diverse group of individuals within Health Information Management as well as ability to deal with staff at all levels in the organization, including medical staff. · Able to visualize the “big” while monitoring the “fine details.” · Have a demonstrated knowledge of operational and capital budgeting within a health organization as well as have a base understanding of the role HIM plays in the revenue cycle of the Hospital. · Exhibit strong leadership skills: Customer service, team facilitator, performance improvement, problem solving, prioritizing, and integrity. · Must have ability to problem solve though diplomatic relationships with members of HIM Management Team, other department and contracted services in the medical center. Must demonstrate knowledge of how HIM interacts with other departments. · Must show documentation of continued education as required. · Must demonstrate general knowledge of fiscal aspects of HIM: DRG’s, APG’s, Managed Care, ABN’s, healthcare environment issues. · Light physical effort. |
