The Rehab Repair Technician performs and supervises the assembly, repair and maintenance of Rehab  equipment provided by Memorial Home Services of CI, and maintaining all appropriate documentation.  This service or repair could be for equipment to be delivered in compliance with specific medical requirements, modifications to existing customer equipment, repair of damaged or malfunctioning customer equipment or routine service required by the manufacturer.  Embodies the Memorial Health System Performance Excellence Standards of Safety, Courtesy, Quality, and Efficiency that support our mission, vision and values.

1. Troubleshooting – Rehab

• Diagnose, repair, and/or modify equipment, as needed, in order to assure proper fitting and functioning of rehabilitation equipment.  This may be done in the shop or in the field.
• Be skilled in troubleshooting mobility equipment to determine type of service or parts necessary for repair.  Provide excellent listening and communication skills to customers in troubleshooting service requests via telephone or in person.
• In case of equipment breakdown, converse with equipment operators to ascertain problems with equipment before breakdown to determine if breakdown is due to human error or mechanical problems.
• Coordinate demo/loaner equipment as needed

2. Equipment Assembly

• Assemble or prepare equipment for delivery, pulling and assembling equipment and supplies from the warehouse as prescribed on patient/client delivery tickets.
• Assemble complex seating and positioning assemblies, custom manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs and all other specialty equipment under the guidance of the ATP.

3. Repair/Modify Rehab Equipment

• Provide service or repair for:

• Equipment to be delivered in compliance with specific medical requirements.
• Custom Modifications to new or existing customer equipment.
• Repair of damaged or malfunctioning customer equipment.
• Routine service required by the manufacturer.

• Be able to prepare and effectively communicate repair quotes.
• Have sufficient electronics skills in.

• Electronic assembly for power mobility.
• Troubleshooting and repair of electronic controls.

• Learn and proficiently utilize power chair programmers, testing equipment, manufacturer software applications for complex power wheelchairs set-up and troubleshooting.

4. Maintenance – Rehab

• Inspect incoming rentals, maintenance needed and repairs required.  Inspect and process returns per company and infection control guidelines.
• Perform a thorough check on REHAB Equipment, in house and in the field and verify equipment is working properly.
• Follow established maintenance schedule for each piece of equipment per specific equipment procedure requirements and per manufacturer’s recommendations.  Maintain equipment in good working order and appearance and verify equipment is working properly.
• Monitor and report abnormal wear and tear to equipment that may be caused by customer misuse or abuse.
• When complex repairs are needed, ensure repairs are scheduled and completed.  Provide complete thorough documentation on all equipment.

5. Quality Improvement

• Supervise equipment delivered to maintain quality control.
• Verify complete shipments to customers.
• Verify equipment sale/rent to be in good working order before delivery.
• Thorough documentation on all rental equipment, including:

• Service date.
• Repair detail.
• Serial numbers.
• Cleaning dates and initial.
• Warranty information

6. Parts & Equipment Inventory

• Maintain an adequate and appropriate supply of repair parts.
• Purchase special parts only as needed and on the most cost efficient basis.
• Place all items received for stock into their appropriate locations on a daily basis.
• Perform accurate physical inventory as required by MHSvc.

7. Shipping and Receiving

• Possess skill in efficient preparation of products for shipping as needed.
• Choose the most cost effective shipping.
• Receive all items shipped on a daily basis.  Verify accuracy of shipment, notify appropriate parties of shipments received, and record properly for inventory purposes.  New equipment needs to be unpacked, noted for inventory and stocked quickly.
• Notify vendor and purchasing of damage or shortage immediately and follow up.

8. Manuals, Documentation and Knowledge.

• Maintain up-to-date files of manufacturer’s repair and maintenance manuals of all REHAB equipment owned by the company (as available) and other related documentation.
• Have familiarity with service requirements of each piece of REHAB equipment owned by this company.
• Maintain well-organized and current documentation for all maintenance and repair to RHEAB equipment, including equipment tracking and maintenance logs.
• Create, submit, and maintain proper paperwork for warranty work.
• When appropriate, be able to create or process proper billing materials.

• Responsible for reviewing detailed warranty information, assessing patient payment responsibility, and collecting monies due as determined.
• Assist with obtaining all required documentation, authorizations, and verifications for proper payment of repair services. Responsible to respond in a timely manner to requests for additional information, and to investigate problem and resolve appropriately.
• Repairing REHAB equipment for customers includes schedule for pick-up, delivery, and providing rental or loaner equipment. Order replacement parts, repairing, documenting repairs for billing and making notations in appropriate notes in billing software.

9. Continuing education

• Maintain required education (10 hrs/yr for rehab).
• Attend as required technical training seminars.
