Director, Hospital Operations 

Location: Decatur, Illinois

About the Opportunity

The Director, Hospital Operations serves as a key architect of strategy, with authority and accountability for shaping direction, setting priorities, and ensuring that operational plans advance enterprise goals. This role partners closely with leaders across the System to drive operational excellence, optimize performance, and deliver customer-focused, cost-effective, and high-quality services that strengthen organizational outcomes and future readiness.

 

The Director, Hospital Operations will embody the Memorial Health values of safety, integrity, quality and stewardship to support the mission and vision.   

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, health care administration, business administration, or health-related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

  • Demonstrated competence in lean six sigma performance improvement methodologies required; certification as Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt desired.
  • Fellow of American College of Health Care Executives (FACHE) preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years of healthcare operations experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role is required.

Responsibilities

  1. Builds and maintains a cohesive management and operations team. Provides leadership, direction and support for members of the team including onboarding of new team members, triaging of work, appropriate staffing levels, expectation setting, resource allocation, and follow-through of assignments. Interprets policies, objectives and operational procedures and represents organization in a positive manner.

 

  1. Coaches and develops team members to their fullest potential, providing educational and developmental opportunities as needed. Equips colleagues to fully utilize the time, talent, technology, and resources available to them to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency. Evaluates the performance of direct reports.

 

  1. Consults with and advises executive leadership on issues impacting operational effectiveness and recommends changes as appropriate. Provides leadership for creating the organizational infrastructure necessary to build staff knowledge, skills and behaviors to help meet current and future demands and support the strategies and business goals of the health system.

 

  1. Provides leadership in the development of appropriate strategic, business, operating and marketing plans for assigned MH Service Lines and departments, and ensures that all assigned programs and facilities are in constant compliance with external licensing, regulatory, and accreditation standards. Consults with and advises the VP, Clinical Operations and President/CEO on issues impacting operational effectiveness and recommends changes as appropriate.

 

  1. Leads efforts to establish high quality and efficient services across areas of responsibility. Collaborates with physician and administrative leaders to ensure program growth, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and fiscal stewardship across the continuum of care. 

 

  1. Oversees development of long-range strategic and operating plans for assigned areas of responsibility aligned with system objectives. Collaborates to coordinate initiatives to achieve operational excellence via customer responsive, cost effective and high-quality health services. Develops and monitors progress of annual goals and objectives for the service line to ensure successful achievement of strategic priorities.

 

  1. In partnership with the President & CEO, provides strategic and operational direction for capital and operating budgets. Maintains effective budgetary controls on matters of staffing, expenses, and capital equipment expenditures; ensures cost effective operational measures; and monitors the effectiveness of programs and services.

 

  1. Analyzes market research on population demographics, competitor profiles, network alliances, and managed care initiatives. Recommends appropriate strategies to respond to market opportunities & threats.

 

  1. Develops opportunities to collaborate with Memorial Health affiliates and leaders to continually improve safety, quality, access/service, efficient resource utilization, and compliance with applicable licensing, accreditation, and regulatory standards.

 

  1. Participates in the evaluation, selection, and integration of health technology and information management systems that support health service needs and the efficient utilization of resources for MH.

 

  1. Participates in committees and forums to evaluate and recommend the improvement of health system facilities, including construction or renovation and purchase of major equipment.

 

  1. Participates in community outreach and networking programs. Participates in local civic organizations, clubs and activities whose purpose may be in concert with, or benefit to, Memorial Health.

 

  1. Maintains professional growth and development through continuing education, seminars, workshops and professional affiliations

 

  1. Maintains strict confidentiality concerning all correspondence and job-related activities.

 

  1. Performs other related work as required or requested.
