Overview

Performs careful and accurate scientific work in a wide variety of laboratory procedures on specimens from patients of all ages, using both manual and automated methods, requiring independent judgment and reports the results in a timely manner.  Responsible for file building, report generation, interfaces, and maintenance of the laboratory information system.  Embodies the Memorial Health System Performance Excellence Standards of Safety, Courtesy, Quality, and Efficiency that support our mission, vision and values.

 

Schedule

Full Time, Day Shift

Weekends as needed 

Qualifications

Education:

College graduate, Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent

 

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

Registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP or equivalent) required. 

 

Experience:

Three to five years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist. 

 

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Light to moderate physical effort

 

 

Responsibilities

  1. Will conduct a full range of tests from the most routine to the most complex with little or no supervision.

 

  1. Responsible for the operation of computers, precision instruments, and other complex electronic equipment.

 

  1. Performs laboratory procedures in all clinical sections of the department

 

  1. Performs venipunctures, capillary collections, and arterial punctures.

  1. Performs designated quality assurance functions.

 

  1. Obtain specimens from infants, children, adolescents, adults, and older adults.

 

  1. Responsible for the operation, interfacing, upgrading, and troubleshooting of the Laboratory Information System.

 

  1. Work with Information Systems regarding interface issues with the hospital information system.

 

  1. Assumes supervisory role when required.

 

  1. Performs other related work as required or requested.
