Overview

  • PRN

In the Emergency Department assists with patient care as directed by the physician and nurse and under scope of practice of EMS Medical Director for Springfield Memorial Hospital.  Embodies the Memorial Health System Performance Excellence Standards of Safety, Courtesy, Quality, and Efficiency that support our mission, vision and values. Assists with the triage function to collaborate with physicians, advanced practitioner providers, nurses and ancillary staff.

 

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school Diploma or GED required
  • EMT-Paramedic license (State or National Registry)

 

Experience:

Minimum of one (1) year experience as a paramedic

 

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Successful completion of unit orientation
  • Strong oral/written communication skills;
  • Demonstrates an ability to work in a team environment of multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities

  1. Administer medications based on physician order, within scope of practice for Memorial EMS.

 

  1. Obtain peripheral IV access and blood draws per standing order.

 

  1. Assisting ED nurse and/or Provider in triaging of patients arriving in the department.

 

  1. Implementing standing triage orders

 

  1. Assists with transport of patients to treatment areas, testing areas, or to inpatient beds within scope of practice for Memorial EMS.

 

  1. Demonstrate self-confidence, ability to maintain control in stressful situations and conditions, ability to clearly communicate with others and to function as a team member.

 

  1. Mathematical calculations/ratios and the ability to apply for medication administration.

 

  1. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships.

 

  1. Performs various medical procedures under the direction of the ED Nurse and/or physician.

 

  1. Observes and communicates any changes or pertinent information related to the patient’s health to appropriate team members.

 

  1. Obtain or hold current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS or ITLS certifications.

 

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.
