Overview

The Workday Integration Specialist is responsible for the design, development, maintenance, and troubleshooting of integrations between Workday and external systems. This role ensures that data flows seamlessly and securely across platforms, supporting business operations and maintaining system integrity.  

 

**This is a remote role, but you must reside in one of these 8 states Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio and Wisconsin**

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience) 

 

Licensure/Certification/Registry: 

  • Required: Workday HCM Certification, Workday Integration Certification  
  • Desired: Workday Extend, Human Capital Management, Payroll, Reporting and Analytics, Security, and Platform Administrators Certifications 

 

Experience: 

  • 3+ years of Workday integration development experience, with hands-on expertise in Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, Cloud Connect, Web Services (SOAP/REST). 
  • Strong understanding of XML, XSLT, SOAP, and REST-based web services. 
  • Demonstrated experience supporting integrations for Payroll, Benefits, Financial, Supply Chain, and other HCM-related systems 
  • Experience troubleshooting complex integrations and working with middleware platforms. 
  • Ability to document technical processes and communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders.

  1. Integration Development & Maintenance: 
  • Design, build, test, and maintain scalable and efficient integrations using Workday Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, Cloud Connect, and Workday Web Services (REST/SOAP APIs). 
  • Manage both inbound and outbound data flows between Workday and third-party systems, including vendors supporting payroll, benefits, time tracking, and other HCM-related services. 
  • Implement and support integrations leveraging technologies such as PECI, PICOF, CCB, XSLT, and RaaS. 
  • Monitor integration schedules, handle error notifications, and ensure data synchronization across platforms. 
  • Support complex third-party integrations. 
  • Troubleshoot integration failures, resolve data mismatches, and manage exception handling to ensure accurate data transmission and minimal disruption. 
  • Maintain reusable integration components and adhere to Workday development best practices for long-term sustainability. 
  1. Data Management & System Optimization: 
  • Ensure the integrity, security, and accuracy of data exchanged between Workday and external systems. 
  • Continuously evaluate and optimize integration performance, reliability, and automation opportunities. 
  • Collaborate with internal teams (HR, Payroll, Finance, IT) and external vendors to streamline data exchange and improve end-to-end workflows. 
  • Support integrations between tools, with an emphasis on optimizing performance and enforcing single source of truth design principles. 
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of integration designs, architecture diagrams, use cases, error handling, and resolution procedures. 
  • Support data transformation efforts using XSLT, MVEL, and calculated fields within integrations. 
  • Participate in efforts to simplify integration of architecture and reduce technical debt across the Workday ecosystem. 
  1. Technical Support & Collaboration: 
  • Act as the subject matter expert for all Workday integrations, providing technical consultation and support to cross-functional teams. 
  • Partner with business analysts and Workday system administrators to gather integration requirements and translate them into scalable, secure technical solutions. 
  • Ensure integrations are aligned with internal data governance, security standards, and compliance requirements (e.g., PII handling, audit controls), quality of the program code and operational effectiveness. 
  • Assist with Workday releases and feature updates, conducting impact assessments and performing necessary regression testing for integrations, ensuring all deployment and rollback steps are documented & tested, and plans are coordinated. 
  • Contribute to agile planning and project execution using tools such as JIRA and Asana, supporting multiple concurrent integration projects and change requests. 
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior developers or team members as needed.
