Overview

Under the direct supervision of the Cath Lab Manager, assists and scrubs on all Cardiac Cath Lab procedures utilizing all standards for quality and patient safety.  Demonstrates knowledge and adherence to JCAHO, federal, and state regulations. Actively participates in the routine checks of clinical, electronic, and all other equipment used in the department within the scope of practice.  Participates in and encourages teamwork to provide patient-focused care.  Embodies the Memorial Health System Performance Excellence Standards of Safety, Courtesy, Quality, and Efficiency that support our mission, vision and values.

Overview of the Program

The Memorial Horizons Program provides students enrolled in Radiography, Surgical Technology, and Sonography degree programs with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience, receive financial support, and secure a pathway to employment at Memorial Health after graduation. 

 

Eligibility Criteria

The Horizons Program is open to external candidates and current Memorial Health colleagues in the first year of their major program of study and will graduate in May 2026.  Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited allied health program that aligns with Memorial’s workforce needs, maintain the minimum required GPA and have completed all prerequisite coursework.  Applicants must complete an employment application and an interview as part of the competitive selection process.  Individuals selected for the Horizons Program must maintain satisfactory academic progress, have no active corrective actions on file, and exhibit behaviors that align with Memorial’s values to remain eligible. 

 

Benefits of Working While In School

Individuals who are selected for the Horizons Program will work at Memorial Health as a per diem colleague while attending school.  This allows participants to gain valuable hands-on experience, work alongside Memorial clinicians, and prepare them for their careers at Memorial after graduation.

 

Financial Opportunities

Individuals selected for the Horizons Program will receive a bi-weekly stipend of $1,000.00 during the second year of their program (August 2025-May 2026).  Stipends are subject to applicable taxes and deductions.  As a Memorial colleague who is working per diem while attending school, you may also be eligible for up to $5250 per calendar year in Tuition Assistance.  In addition, individuals selected for the Horizons Program will be eligible for sign-on incentives at the time of graduation.

 

Pathway to Employment After Graduation

Graduates of the Horizons Program will be placed in full-time roles designated by Memorial Health upon meeting all graduation and licensing requirements.  Participants must commit to working at Memorial Health for three years after graduation.

Qualifications

Education:

Graduate of accredited cardiovascular technician program preferred.

 

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

CPR required and ACLS preferred within 12-24 months of hire date.

 

Experience:

1 year patient care experience required.

 

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Able to assist and scrub, at a proficient level, all procedures related to the department in both acute and stable patients.

Ability to manipulate various types of electronic, radiology and clinical equipment within the scope of practice.

Calibrate and troubleshoot various types of radiology and computer equipment. 

Ability to perform department specific skills.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Serves as scrub assistant or hemodynamic/documentation monitor on all procedures working closely with the physicians and direct care staff communicating pertinent patient information to provide patient focused care.

 

  1. Assists in the care of patients by providing timely, accurate, precise patient testing results.

 

  1. Participates in multidisciplinary task teams, as assigned, to provide the continuum of care to patients.

 

  1. Able to document all pertinent patient information as needed within the scope of practice.

  1. Assists with Cath Lab procedures in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.

 

  1. Able to troubleshoot and assess equipment failure and provide a backup plan when needed.

 

  1. Assures that all supplies are available as needed for each procedure.

 

  1. Assists with surgical procedures, i.e. pacemaker, implantable defibrillators, TAVR, etc. in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.

 

  1. Serves as a technical resource to co-workers and aids in the resolution of technical problems.

 

  1. Provides training to fellow staff on new procedures methodologies as needed.

 

  1. Ensures that all information and calculations required are accurately labeled prior to documenting into the hemodynamic monitor system.

 

  1. Adheres to hospital policy and procedures in regards to radiation safety and protection of self, staff, physicians, patients, and family members.

 

  1. Able to take call as required to meet the demands of the department.

 

  1. Works cohesively with all staff to create and maintain a work schedule suitable for the needs of the organization.

 

  1. Delegates appropriately to non-licensed staff in accordance with job descriptions, license requirements, and standards of practice.

 

  1. Develop and maintain positive and open relationships with staff and team leader to provide quality patient focused care.

 

  1. Serves as a participant to meet all regulatory agency guidelines both on the state and the federal level, which includes JCAHO, CLIA, Medicare, and all other agencies.

 

  1. Demonstrates willingness to learn new techniques and assume additional responsibilities as needed within the scope of practice.

 

  1. Adheres to the behavioral standards.
