Overview

Working as the Charge Master Specialist at MHS you will be responsible for patient charge master maintenance and working with departments to add, modify or delete CDM charge codes.  Work with departments to ensure proper matching of UB04 revenue codes, HCPCS, and CPT4 codes.  Assist with the annual Charge Description Master (CDM) review and provide guidance to departments for routine maintenance, coding inquiries, and pricing studies.  Work with other Decision Support staff to maintain the procedural costing and other duties related to the cost accounting system. Assist in the daily operations of the department.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor Degree with two years applicable experience in coding and/or billing, preferred.

Experience:

  • Working experience with Revenue Cycle Billing System, General Ledgers, Cost Accounting, and Budget is a plus.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Understanding of CPT, HCPC, and UB04 revenue codes, preferred.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office applications effectively.
  • Good communication and people skills required.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintain the CDM by adding, modifying and deleting charge codes in the billing system.

 

  1. Prepare a summary, or agenda and minutes for weekly CDM committee meeting. Notify departments of approvals or denials related to the CDM committee meeting.

 

  1. Assist with annual and interim review/update of CDM coding of UB04 Revenue codes, HCPCS, CPT4 codes and descriptions.

 

  1. Assist in compilation of data related to all aspects of the annual price change budget process.

 

  1. Use the Panacea Hospital Zero Based Pricing solution to assist in the determination and review of the annual prices. Create or update analytical spreadsheets required for the development of the gross revenue budget.

 

  1. Provide timely patient price estimates as requested by potential patients or physicians offices. These requests include phone calls, faxes and email.

 

  1. Work with departments for the ongoing review and revision of patient charges and interfaces for appropriateness and adherence to all applicable compliance issues.

 

  1. Provide Relative Value Units (RVU) cost data (minutes or acquisition cost) for the cost accounting system on a weekly basis.

 

  1. Work closely with Value Analysis to ensure accurate cost and determination of billable supplies within governmental regulations.

 

  1. Assist Value Analysis with Request to Evaluate (RTE) and physician utilization submissions to determine the financial impact of a new supply.

 

  1. Provide direction to the clinical team to utilize CDM Manager in MedAssets. Review and approve requests initiated in CDM Manager.   Assist in the training of new users in MedAssets.

 

  1. Maintain current knowledge and adhere to all relevant Administrative and departmental policies, and governmental regulations.

 

  1. Promote the Statement of Values and the Personal Performance Behavioral Standards at all times.

 

  1. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee data and patients clinical and financial information.

 

  1. Performs other related work as required or requested.
