Overview

Supervises a designated area within the EVS department, ensuring consistently high standards of environmental hygiene and aesthetics for patients, visitors, and staff. This role is also responsible for overseeing regulatory compliance, managing the department’s financial operations, and collaborating with other management and supervisory team members to support the department's daily functions.

 

03:30PM - 12:00AM [With some holidays, weekends, and to cover shifts as needed]

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
  • Associate's Degree preferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

  • Valid Illinois driver’s license required; must meet MHS Fleet Safety Policy standards. A five-year MVR will be required.
  • Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) and/or Certified Surgical Cleaning Technician (CSCT) certifications, or trainer designation preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of leadership experience in healthcare environmental services or a related field preferred.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to work on feet for an eight-hour shift, move heavy equipment and furniture, and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all team members and management.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, MS Project, PM software, and EVS software systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and manages necessary resources for the Environmental Services department, making recommendations for hiring and promotions.
  • Completes annual performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Oversees waste management programs, ensuring proper separation, packaging, and disposal of waste in compliance with all regulations.
  • Implements quality improvement initiatives under the direction of the EVS director or manager; conducts rounding activities to ensure environmental hygiene in all assigned areas and documents results.
  • Manages the bed tracking system, ensuring EVS response and cleaning times are met. Prepares reports, collaborating with the EVS director or manager to develop improvement strategies.
  • Demonstrates expertise in cleaning and disinfection principles, proper chemical and equipment usage, and labor requirements for maintaining furniture, furnishings, and interior finishes.
  • Oversees inventory management, usage data, and ordering of consumable supplies and equipment repairs.
  • Prepares master work and time schedules, coordinating vacation and holiday time, and reviewing daily schedule adjustments under the direction of the director or manager.
  • Supervises subcontractors and EVS suppliers as needed.
  • Adheres to all safety, risk management, infection control, and prevention standards. Promotes a culture of patient safety through observation and education.
  • Coaches team members on the chain of infection and principles of pathogen transmission.
  • Responds to emergency calls and coordinates staffing adjustments to minimize disruption.
  • Conducts patient and colleague interviews to evaluate service levels, promoting positive public relations and contributing to efforts to improve patient experience, cleanliness scores, and departmental performance metrics.
  • Controls expenditures within the approved budget, taking corrective actions when variances arise.
  • Works with the EVS director or manager and Colleague Relations to address staff coaching and corrective actions.
  • Performs tasks of Level I and II technicians as needed.
  • Provides and documents training for Level I, II, and Lead technicians.
