Overview

Under the direction and supervision of the Payroll Manager, serve MHS its affiliates by overseeing activities

associated with the day to day payroll functions including processing payrolls, prioritization, problem resolution,

review and evaluate work of payroll team, maintain specified account variance analysis and assist in other financial

research projects as required. Must keep current with all payroll rules and regulations and assure established

departmental deadlines are met and provide assistance and support to attain departmental goals and objectives.

Qualifications

Education:

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business required.

 

Experience:

· Minimum 3-5 years experience in payroll, such as preparation/processing, auditing, etc., required.

· Supervisory experience is preferred.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Must possess excellent communication and customer service skills.

· Must possess a high degree of organizational skills.

· Must possess a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

· Must possess knowledge and ability to process payroll disbursements for all payrolls.

· Must possess a high degree of analytical skills involving a large number of transactions.

· Displays working knowledge of payroll, human resources and general ledger systems.

· Requires knowledge and understanding of employment laws and labor issues, federal and state FLSA, Wage and

Hour laws, payroll tax, benefits and compensation.

·Knowledge of 3rd party tax filing experience is preferred. 

· Requires the ability to function with limited direction and exercise judgment.

 

Responsibilities

1.Acts as a team leader within the Payroll Department that coaches and directs payroll team activities.

2. Assist in payroll processing including but not limited to: provide payroll support to editors/managers, payroll tax deposit and return reviews.

3. Serve as a liaison between Payroll and Human Resource departments of MHS and its affiliates to answer questions related to payroll processing and activities.

4. Assist and maintain training of payroll team members responsible for affiliate payrolls.

6. Assist Payroll Manager in developing, reviewing and implementing payroll policies and procedures.

7. Inquire, review, follow-up, and investigate payroll processing related issues.

8. Assist in processing all payroll-related reports, including time card reports and labor distribution reports.

9. Review payroll tax deposits and quarterly Federal and State 941 and 940 tax returns.

10. Assist in year-end processing of all payroll reports and W-2s.

11. Prepare intercorporate GL entries for payroll expenses charged to affiliate corporations.

12. Oversee, analyze and maintain selected account analyses and related schedules as assigned, in accordance with both generally accepted accounting standards and MHS policies and procedures, within the time frames established to meet the monthly financial statement deadlines.

13. Maintain knowledge and understanding of the Workforce Management System.

14. Assist department directors, nurse managers and their designees in understanding and applying various policies and guidelines in the Workforce Management System.

15. Propose and participate in quality improvement initiatives designed to reengineer, eliminate, or continuously improve payroll processing leading to more efficient and effective payroll processes and/or improved customer service.

16. Assist with preparing presentations and is able to present in the Payroll Manager’s absence.
