Overview

Position Summary:

The Cogito/BI Manager is responsible for leading the development, deployment, and optimization of the reporting and analytics infrastructure supporting the Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. This role ensures that the organization effectively leverages Epic Cogito tools, including Clarity, Caboodle, and Reporting Workbench, to deliver actionable insights that drive clinical, operational, and financial performance. The Cogito/BI Manager works closely with stakeholders across the organization to identify reporting needs, manage a team of analysts and developers, and ensure the delivery of high-quality analytics solutions aligned with organizational priorities.

Required to be on-site at least 3 days per week.

 

Expect to travel to Madison, WI for 2-3 weeks over the summer based on the specific certification track needed for your application.  More detail will be provided as the course catalog is finalized for offerings

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, healthcare administration, or a related field is required or equivalent experience. A master’s degree in healthcare informatics, business intelligence, or a related field is preferred. 

 

Epic Certification:

One or more Epic certifications (e.g., Clarity Data Model, Caboodle Data Warehouse, or Reporting Workbench) are preferred.  For candidates without existing certifications, Epic certification will be required as part of onboarding.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or informatics, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • At least 3 years of experience managing teams or leading large-scale analytics projects.
  • Hands-on experience with Epic Cogito tools, including Clarity, Caboodle, and Reporting Workbench, is highly desired.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of database structures, data integration, and data visualization best practices.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, data modeling, and BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and deliver results within tight timelines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.

 Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Epic EHR implementation or optimization projects.

Responsibilities

Principal Duties & Responsibilities: 

  1. Lead a team of BI analysts, report writers, and developers, providing oversight, mentorship, and performance management.
  2. Establish and maintain processes for effective workload management, resource allocation, and project prioritization.
  3. Recruit, train, and retain a high-performing team with expertise in Epic reporting tools and analytics.
  4. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the Cogito/BI team.
  5. Oversee the design, development, and deployment of Epic Cogito tools, including Clarity, Caboodle, and Reporting Workbench.
  6. Ensure data models, extracts, and reports meet organizational requirements and comply with best practices.
  7. Partner with Epic application teams to integrate reporting and analytics into workflows, ensuring seamless access to insights.
  8. Optimize the use of Epic's BI tools to improve performance, data accuracy, and user adoption.
  9. Collaborate with clinical, operational, and financial leaders to identify key performance indicators and reporting needs.
  10. Serve as the primary liaison between the Cogito/BI team and organizational leadership, ensuring alignment of analytics priorities with strategic goals.
  11. Provide guidance to end users on best practices for leveraging analytics and reporting tools.
  12. Lead the governance process for BI initiatives, ensuring alignment with enterprise data standards and compliance requirements.
  13. Manage BI-related projects, including data extracts, dashboards, and custom reporting, from scoping to implementation.
  14. Coordinate with Epic application and IT teams to ensure smooth integration of data and reporting solutions.
  15. Develop and maintain a project roadmap, ensuring timely delivery of BI solutions aligned with organizational priorities.
  16. Address and resolve issues or risks impacting the delivery of analytics and reporting projects.
  17. Implement and enforce data governance policies to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and security of organizational data.
  18. Establish quality assurance processes for BI deliverables, including testing and validation of data and reports.
  19. Monitor and address data integrity issues across the Epic reporting ecosystem.
  20. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including HIPAA, for data use and reporting.
  21. Develop and deliver training programs for end users and BI team members to enhance their understanding of Epic reporting tools and capabilities.
  22. Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for BI tools and reporting solutions.
  23. Stay informed about new features and updates in the Epic Cogito suite and ensure their effective adoption within the organization.
