Overview

Position Summary:

The Technical Manager oversees the technical components of the Epic install including administration and optimization of Epic's Data Courier tool and security frameworks, ensuring seamless system operations and secure management of user access, and deployment of devices needed for end users working in Epic. Key responsibilities include managing the deployment of build changes across environments, resolving system conflicts, auditing and monitoring security configurations, and ensuring adherence to regulatory and organizational policies. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, technical expertise in Epic systems, and a proactive approach to team development and operational excellence. This position plays a critical role in maintaining system reliability, supporting Epic implementations, and fostering a secure and efficient healthcare IT environment.

 

Required to be on-site at least 3 days per week.

Expect to travel to Madison, WI for 2-3 weeks over the summer based on the specific certification track needed for your application.  More detail will be provided as the course catalog is finalized for offerings

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelors preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Epic Certification:

Certification in one or more Epic modules desired: EpicCare Inpatient, EpicCare Ambulatory, Epic Bridges, and/or Epic Security Coordinator. Epic certification(s) will be an essential part of the onboarding and transition process, with full support provided to ensure successful completion.

 

Other Requirements: 

  • 7+ years of relevant IT and/or management role.
  • Strong people management and leadership skills, with the ability to translate strategy into execution. 
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and within a team. 
  • Ability to solve complex problems and translate business needs into system solutions. 
  • Strong understanding of healthcare business processes and technology, with basic knowledge of healthcare workflows and terminology. 

Responsibilities

Principal Duties & Responsibilities: 

  1. Manages Epic Data Courier and Security Analysts, overseeing hiring, training, staffing, and performance management.
  2. Leads device deployment efforts to ensure all end user facing devices are operational and tested as part of go-live readiness
  3. Provide strategic direction to the team in managing the deployment of build changes across environments, resolving system conflicts, auditing and monitoring security configurations, and ensuring adherence to regulatory and organizational policies.
  4. Lead and mentor teams to ensure smooth project execution and ongoing support.
  5. Oversee project management for Epic Data Courier operations, system security configurations, and related projects, including implementations, upgrades, and software releases.
  6. Coordinate testing phases specific to data migration and security setup, ensuring all environment transitions are accurate and secure.
  7. Develop strategies for team training and tools to support operational efficiency in managing build migrations and access control.
  8.  Lead the development and optimization of the Data Courier process to ensure efficient and accurate migration of Epic build changes across environments.
  9. Provide high-level input on security system design, including role-based access and compliance-driven configurations.
  10. Guide the team in documenting technical requirements, change control processes, and configuration updates related to system build and security settings.
  11. Advocate for standardization, automation, and the use of best practices in build migrations and access control across environments.
  12.  Resolve complex technical issues related to Data Courier functionality and security configurations, ensuring minimal disruption to operational workflows.
  13. Oversee second-level support for escalated incidents or requests related to environment migrations or security incidents.
  14. Support ongoing expansion of system security capabilities and environment optimization to meet organizational needs.
  15.  Develop strong relationships with IT leadership, security teams, and application analysts to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  16. Serve as the technical liaison during leadership meetings and project updates, providing expertise on build migrations, environment management, and security practices.
