Overview:
Springfield Memorial Hospital is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to serve as the Director of Emergency Medical Services. This role is responsible for the oversight, planning, and coordination of all emergency medicine operations, with a focus on delivering high-quality, cost-effective, and patient-centered care within a Level 1 Trauma Center environment.
The Director will champion clinical excellence, drive innovation, and ensure effective collaboration among multidisciplinary teams. Key responsibilities include emergency service delivery optimization, ED billing oversight, physician engagement, and support for system-wide initiatives aligned with organizational strategy.
Lead the development and execution of operational plans aligned with MHS strategic priorities.
Oversee all aspects of emergency services, ensuring high standards in quality, patient safety, and experience.
Manage departmental budgets, capital planning, and resource allocation within approved guidelines.
Drive quality improvement, process optimization, and performance initiatives across emergency services.
Coordinate clinical resource management, benchmarking, and protocol development for high-risk, high-cost populations.
Develop and implement strategies to improve referral pathways, communication, and patient navigation.
Partner with internal departments and physician groups to ensure coordinated, seamless care delivery.
Enhance emergency medical record functionality in alignment with health system digital strategy.
Represent the service line in community relations and educational activities for staff, physicians, patients, and families.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory, licensing, and managed care standards.
Support recruitment, retention, and development of high-performing emergency medicine staff and leaders.
Model collaborative leadership, uphold organizational values, and foster a culture of respect, accountability, and innovation.
Maintain knowledge of evolving industry trends, regulations, and best practices in emergency care delivery.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in nursing or Master’s degree in Nursing
Licensure/Certification:
Registered Nurse (RN) required.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a tertiary care or trauma center.
Proven ability to collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams in complex, fast-paced environments.
Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, operational planning, project management, and quality improvement.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to lead through change in dynamic and evolving environments.
Skilled in conflict resolution, coaching, and performance management.
Working knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies preferred.
