Overview

The Occupational Therapy Assistant II is responsible for providing Occupational therapy treatment to patients of all ages under the direction and supervision of Occupational therapist. All procedures are carried out in accordance with established standards, policies, protocols and guidelines. Participates in COTA student supervision, inservicing of staff, program development and special projects.

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

  • O.T.A license in the State of Illinois required.
  • CPR Certification preferred.
  • If applicable, must possess valid Illinois drivers license and must be deemed as an acceptable driver in accordance with the MHS Fleet Safety Policy (5 year MVR will be required).

Experience:

Minimum of 5 yrs of experience required.

 

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with patients, families, peer and other team members as needed for assessment, intervention, and professional development.
  • Must be physically able to lift, support, move patients 50 – 100 lbs.
  • Universal Precautions Category I.

Responsibilities

  1. Provides quality patient treatment.

 

  1. Provides accurate and timely documentation as directed by the Occupational Therapist.

 

  1. Provides interdepartmental communication with areas such as nursing, social service, and occupational therapy.

 

  1. Serves as a clinical resource for COTA’s and rehab techs.

 

  1. Is active in his/her professional development through utilization of staff expertise and the department’s annual education program.

 

  1. Assists in overseeing inventory of assigned areas.

 

  1. Maintains equipment and environment in safe order and in compliance with Joint Commission infection control standards.

 

  1. Assists with COTA students in combination with Occupational Therapist.

 

  1. Participates in department’s educational and community service activities.

 

  1. Participates in program development or special projects under the auspices of the assigned Occupational Therapist or Program Coordinator.

 

  1. Assists with department projects, planning and problem solving through task force and/or community participation.

 

  1. Demonstrates support for and participates as requested in accomplishing MHS, departmental and team goals and objectives.

 

  1. Performs other related work as required or requested.
