Overview

To manage all activities in single or multiple areas of responsibility concentrating on organizational, technical and financial performance of the department(s); to participate in testing procedures on patients of all ages; and to resolve problems specific to broad based division function. Responsibilities include arterial punctures, blood cultures and collection of blood samples Embodies the Memorial Health System Performance Excellence Standards of Safety, Courtesy, Quality, and Efficiency that support our mission, vision and values.

Qualifications

Education:

College graduate, Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent preferred.

 

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

Registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) or equivalent required.

 

Experience:

Three to five years of experience as a medical laboratory scientist or medical laboratory technician required..

 

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Light to moderate physical effort.

Responsibilities

  1. Schedule bench assignments of multiple departments/locations to ensure adequate coverage for patient workload on the evening shift.

 

  1. Perform performance appraisals on staff under their leadership.

 

  1. Supervises all areas within the lab on the evening shift.

 

  1. Evaluates, assists in interviews, manage staff behavior and, where necessary, perform disciplinary action for supervised employees.

  1. Assist in the preparation of yearly division/departmental budget.

 

  1. Test patient samples, quality control materials and other specimens to aid physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patient conditions.

 

  1. Order and prepare reagents, supplies and materials utilized in the department(s), supervise or delegate such responsibilities.

 

  1. Conserve hospital resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to perform job duties.

 

  1. Contributes to providing a great customer experience by assisting patients, visitors, physicians to resolve expressed concerns, and by demonstrating a welcoming and helpful attitude.

 

  1. Conforms to Memorial Health system strategic plan and behavioral standards.

 

  1. Support the Mission, Vision and Values of Memorial Health system and strive to provide the most cost effective, accurate, and timely patient testing possible within their ability to impact workflow and decision making.

 

  1. Performs other related work as required or requested. Performs venipunctures, capillary punctures, and arterial punctures to obtain blood specimens for testing.

 

 

  1. Performs Swabbing technique of various kinds to collect specimens

 

  1. Specimens are obtained from infants, children, adolescents, adults, and older adults
