Overview

As a Maintenance Mechanic you will work to assist in maintaining the physical plant, grounds, equipment, systems, devices and apparatus in safe and proper working order per established polices/procedures, work order specifications, and appropriate codes.  Embodies the Memorial Health Values of Safety, Integrity, Quality, and Stewardship that support our mission and vision.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent required.
  • Trade school graduate preferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

  • Must possess valid Illinois driver’s license and must be deemed as an acceptable driver in accordance with the MHS Fleet Safety Policy (five year MVR will be required).
  • Must be trained and certified to operate a powered industrial truck within 6 months of hire.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years’ experience in maintenance or repair shop/service preferred.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in commercial grounds and lawn maintenance required.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electricity, carpentry, and HVAC preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic operation of lawn and snow removal equipment.

Responsibilities

  1. Installs, maintains, and repairs simple equipment and machinery in and around the facility. Assists maintenance specialties in the repair and preventative maintenance of mechanical equipment, machines, and building. Performs start up inspection of power equipment. 

 

  1. Provide general upkeep of grounds including; mowing, trimming, edging, and basic landscaping duties.

 

  1. Under minimal supervision, assists in the development of maintenance procedures to ensure proper care of lawns, shrubs and trees to include raking, watering planting and dethatching of lawn. Ensures that proper fertilizer programs are implemented for plantings.

 

  1. Provide general winter upkeep of grounds including; plowing and shoveling snow, salting/sanding of walkways, driveways, and parking lots.

 

  1. Maintains external appearance of facility by cleaning driveways, parking areas, entrances and disposing of trash.

 

  1. Transport materials/equipment by hand, dolly or truck to work site. May provide set up and tear down of equipment or materials as needed.

 

 

  1. Moves and assembles furniture and equipment.

 

  1. Paint and install wall coverings.

 

  1. Performs task as assigned through work order system.

 

  1. Responds to miscellaneous calls from hospital staff.

 

  1. Maintain time, material, and equipment logs as required.

 

  1. Expected to be on call for seasonal snow removal and other hospital needs.

 

  1. Provides a safe environment by adhering to all infection control guidelines, hospital policies and procedures, and applicable codes and regulations.

 

  1. Performs basic maintenance of fleet vehicles and forklift operation.

 

  1. Provides security assistance when requested, including responding to security issues.

 

  1. Performs other related work as required or requested.
