Overview

The Medical Informatics Consultant serves as a resource and liaison in the development, implementation, and support of health information technology utilized by medical staff. Triages incoming issues and requests and determines remedial and/or escalation procedures. Conducts testing and maintenance of applications and related technology. Develops and facilitates provider education to ensure competency related to all aspects of hardware and software.  Partners with medical staff, administration, and IS colleagues to identify and implement new and/or enhanced technology and process solutions. 

 

The candidate hired will be aligned to support the Medical Imaging department with the Memorial Health System.  This position will strategically partner with those within Medical Imaging within their role as a Medical Informatics Consultant at Memorial Health.

 

**This role sits ON SITE in Springfield Illinois**

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, communication, healthcare administration, computer science or related field  preferred or at least five years of relevant work experience in project management, communication, or customer service

Preferred Experience:

  • Minimum of two years applied technical experience in a training, project management, or analyst role. Clinical experience strongly preferred

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and physicians using technical and non-technical verbiage
  • Proven record of excellent critical thinking skills and independent problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrated organizational abilities to manage multiple competing priorities
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in highly dynamic and agile work environment
  • Availability to participate in evening, night and weekend on-call rotation as required for 24 hour, 7 day a week support of systems

Responsibilities

  1. network services, system administrators, and/or application teams as needed to restore service and/or identify and correct problems. Simulates or recreates end-user issues to assist in troubleshooting; and recommends system modifications to reduce future issues.

 

  1. Maintains detailed documentation regarding user information, issue identification, and all courses of action taken. Follows up on service requests to determine the status of calls and to ensure the highest level of customer service and satisfaction.

 

  1. Provide set-up assistance and troubleshooting for wireless device applications and wireless network connections.

 

  1. Monitors system changes for unintentional consequences to interdependent systems and/or workflows. Reports resultant issues and assists with mitigation and resolution efforts.

 

  1. Provides consultation on the design, development and facilitation of training to meet technology education needs for physicians, residents, allied health providers, medical students, and other clinicians.

 

  1. Utilizes and contributes to documentation and knowledgebase to meet training and support needs.

 

  1. Staffs provider computer labs providing at-the-elbow training and support.

 

  1. Provide onsite training and support at any health facilities where Providers access Memorial EHR and related technology.

 

  1. Gathers end-user and business requirements to innovate new functionality and/or enhancements to meet end-user and organizational needs.

 

  1. Consults on major projects, upgrades, and initiatives in design, testing, training, and go-live support.

 

  1. Coordinates and aligns change requests and new functionality with informatics, IS, and clinical colleagues.

 

  1. Proactively observes end users in their environment to understand workflow and/or technology redesign.

 

  1. Routinely solicits end-user feedback for opportunities to improve technologies and/or workflows.

 

  1. Acquires and maintains current knowledge of relevant product offerings and support policies in order to provide technically accurate solutions to customers.

 

  1. Keeps abreast of new technology and provides consultation to Regional Manager of Medical Informatics on opportunities, risks, benefits, and return on investment.

 

  1. Serves as the Medical Informatics representative on interdisciplinary committees, SIU School of Medicine committees, and physician department meetings.

 

  1. Develops and maintains relationships with members of the medical staff leadership team, health system leaders over medical specialty areas and all providers.
  2. Must be flexible to provide support and training needs for a 24/7 operation.

 

  1. Performs other related work as required or requested.
